Mrs. Imelda Marcos, to launch her IMELDA Collection come this November 18. Maybe no one has been paying much attention to her lately but I’ve been having mixed emotions about this. Not just because her hot grandson Borgy Manotoc encouraged her when he told her, “Mama Meldy, I would like to use your collection to tell the world the real Imelda and the spirit of my grandma” but because I’ve always hated Imelda Marcos ever since my history teacher introduced us to Ferdinand Marcos.
The diva in me applauded at the idea of trinkets! Baubles! And Gems!
But the activist in me scoffed at her blatant attempt to splay her proclivity for amassing huge err, attention. Showing the world that you are very creative and productive by making trinkets out of nothing cannot ever commensurate what you’ve caused in the 80s, lady. That’s just much about having spirit as that of a cow eating grass in Antarctica.
Maybe my thoughts of ever wringing Imelda Marcos’ neck for causing the Philippine economic debacle in the 80’s will be dissuaded because sigh, nothing can ever make me hate anything that beautiful, especially if she’s creating trinkets. Especially if Mrs. T is handling her media relations. Especially since the hot grandson is Borgy Manotoc, himself.
Still, I wish she’d create an Imelda Marcos Collection and do all of this to feed at least one province in Visayas to make up for the 80s. Give up one, just one, diamond. An LV armoire. A penthouse in NY. Anything. Then I’d be very not guilty if ever I get to buy any of her collection. Charity case, yes, yes.
