She got his text message. She read it twice. Thrice. The delete button was pressed. The phone beeped again. This time it read, “I know you are still up. Text me back.”
A mirror on her bedside table reflected and showed a pallid girl with lifeless hair that had seen better days. The eyes were blank, the skin dull.
A hand reached for her and touched her back.
“Who is it?”
Startled, she spun around and saw a half-naked guy on her bed looking at her inquiringly. It took her a while to focus and realized that he was the guy she’s been with for the past three hours. She forgot his name.
“Nothing.” She said. She rose and the blanket that was covering her nakedness fell to the floor and exposed the woman that she is. “I’m going to take a shower. You can’t stay long.”
The guy got up on his elbows. “Why not?”
“Because I’m going out.”
“It’s 2 am.”
“It’s none of your business.”
The guy shrugged. “Okay.” He rose to his feet. “Want me to shower with you?” He asked, grinning sheepishly.
She just shook her head. Ten minutes after and she still found him on her bed, with only his pants on and was staring at the ceiling.
“Sweetie, I’ll be leaving sometime soon.”
He looked at her and suddenly she was alarmed. His eyes were flashing and he was holding her cellphone in his fast. “Who is this?”
Annoyed, she started dressing hastily and combing her hair. “Who is who? Give me that back.”
“A guy called. He’s asking for you. Who is it!?”
“What?!” She tried to get the phone from him but he wouldn’t let her. “What are you doing?”
“You’re seeing someone else, aren’t you? You’re going out because you’re seeing this guy!”
“You took his call?” She asked, incredulously. “What did you say?”
“I told him you were with me. I asked him what he wanted.”
She lunged at him and snatched the phone from his hand. “Get out! Get out!”
He grabbed her wrist and squeezed it. “Tell me you’re not going out. Tell me that you’re staying here.”
“You’re hurting me.” She whimpered. She tried to take her arm back but his grip tightened. “Stop. You need to get out. Now.”
“I will not till you say so.”
Seconds passed. Her whimpers turned to huge gasps of breath. “What are you doing? What do you want?”
“Stay. Don’t go. Stay with me. Make love to me.”
“You’re crazy!” In a split second she jerked her hand away from him and she managed to get away and quickly inched to the door.
He caught a lump of hair and she screamed from the pain.
“Where are you going?” He pulled her next to him until she could feel his chest on her back..
“Come on. This is illogical. Let me go and we’ll talk.”
He made her face him and saw that she was terrified and shaking. “What are you scared of? Just a few hours ago you were moaning and begging for it.” He clutched her face in his hand and kissed her hard on the lips. She squirmed but his hand tightened on her cheeks. She was already crying and her tears made his kiss wet the more.
