Before I start to rattle off a few summer excursions in the past months (Foodspotting and wellness places in Boracay Island, a Luxury Villa in Mactan Cebu, etc), I have noticed with dismay the onset of cold season now making its way to our tropical shores. Rain has not been good to anyone of us lately and I couldn’t even begin to start with Sendong but if summer if over and rainy season is upcoming, wouldn’t you want to be in the Alps right now?
Oh, what I would give to bath myself in snow, go ski in luxury in mega expensive ski chalets in the afternoons and just cuddle up in the fireplace at nights! If we have winter season in the Philippines, it would be one of my favorite seasons! While skiing all year round would be hazarduous to my health, I would never get enough of that skiing fix, the slopes and whoa – winter fashion!
Take for example this nifty chalet in St. Anton (all photos taken from the web). When you’ve lived in a tropical climate all your life, you certainly cannot imagine waking up and seeing that kind of scenery outside your door. Snow and pine trees? How Narnia it is! Ski chalets definitely cater to the tiniest luxuries in life such as getting one’s dose of English newspapers and canapes in the morning, unwind with aromatherapy bathroom products or warm up and cuddle next to a roaring fire while sipping hot chocolate in the nights. Ah, everything all sounds like a movie script that has been used for centuries.
It would not really hurt to fantasize about spending a weekend in Austria, Valais, Mont-Tremblant, Quebec or Cortina, Italy and go skiing to the home of some of the world’s best pistes and as well as some of the snow records in the world! If a view of at least 1500m of vertical ski area connects to picturesque resorts and chalets surround you, then you are definitely not missing out on the world.
I personally blame climate change for melting the glaciers in Europe that made the best ski resorts in the world give up their ski operations. Bummer. Because of that, skiing and winter isn’t that much fun. At least the best tour operators in the world such as Austria, France, and Zermatt still claim to have the best snow parks in the world. Ah – winter. If only you were part of the Philippines.
Summer 2012 to be concluded in a few, folks!
